Cancer Claims Pasco K-9 Lee
The dog, who worked most of his life with the sheriff's office, died on Monday.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of its own.
K-9 Lee died on Monday after being diagnosed with a “large tumor on his spleen just last Friday,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman Melanie Snow wrote in a media release.
Lee, 9, had worked with the sheriff’s K-9 unit most of his life.
“His death has been difficult for Deputy Robert Wilkins, who has worked with Lee since he was a pup,” Snow wrote.
Lee worked in narcotics and on patrol for the better part of seven years. He remained on active duty until his death on Monday.

After going to the K-9 Unit benefits for Halloween and seeing the demos, this makes me especially sad. Those K-9s are amazing. RIP Lee :(

Deputy Wilkins, I know your heart must ache at the passing of Lee. Please take comfort in knowing that you gave him a wonderful life. He lived doing what he was trained to do and probably loved it and being at your side each day. He is waiting for you now at the Rainbow Bridge.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your partner. There is nothing to be said to help dampen the ache you probably feel right now, but wanted you to know we appreciate all that Lee did in protecting us and you. He was special. Thank you for sharing, Deputy Wilkes.
