Car Show Draws More Than Expected

More than 65 exhibitors rolled up to show off their wheels.

With a better-than-expected turnout, organizers of the first Al and Ida Silver Memorial Classic Car Show were all smiles on Jan. 15.

"We're very pleased," said Pam St. Mary, event organizer. St. Mary said that most inaugural car shows only draw between 30 and 50 entrants. The fundraiser for the Heritage Park Foundation drew more than 65 cars, ranging from classic Camaros, Corvettes and Thunderbirds to a 1931 Model A Ford, complete with "Bonnie and Clyde" replica mannequins.

"We've had a lot of support," St. Mary said. "That's what made this happen."

The nonprofit foundation is raising money to improve the grounds of the Land O' Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O' Lakes Blvd. The hope is to build an amphitheater and a "Heritage Walk" to commemorate pioneering families from the area.
