Conner Preserve Closed for Hog Hunts

Only permitted hunters will be allowed on the property from Nov. 6 through Nov. 8.

Planning a hike or a bike ride this week? Steer clear of Conner Preserve.

The preserve at 22500 State Road 52 in Land O' Lakes will be temporarily closed to the public for wild hog hunts from Nov. 6 to Nov. 8, according to the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

Only permitted hunters will be allowed on the property during these dates. All of the permits for these hunts have been sold, a press release stated.

This activity is one of a series of wild hog hunts being held on district lands in an effort to control the damage being caused to the natural habitats, the press release stated.

The district only allows hogs to be controlled through hunts when the damage they cause exceeds unacceptable levels, and damage is occurring more frequently and with increasing severity, according to the release.

For more information, call the Land Management Section at the district’s Brooksville headquarters at 800-423-1476 or 352- 796-7211, ext. 4467.
