A team of students from Countryside Montessori Charter recently traveled to Washington, DC, to be honored in the 20^th anniversary of the Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision program, the world’s largest K-12 student science competition.

The students won 2^nd place in the grades 4-6 category.  They were chosen from 4,809 teams from across the U.S. and Canada, representing the participation of 14,606 students in this year’s program, according to a press release. 

In addition to the all-expenses paid trip to Washington, DC, each student on the tean won a $5,000 savings bond.

The Countryside Montessori team's submission in the contest was a design for the S.M.A.R.T. School, a school which uses converts the movement and sound energy created by students into electric energy for clean, green, inexpensive power. The school’s desks and chairs also feature special antibacterial nanoplastic materials to keeps students and teachers healthier.
