Fire And Wood Rescheduled For January

Skateboard event to be held on the rain date.

When you put fire and wood together it makes you want to find the marshmallows. In this case "Fire and Wood" mean two different things, skateboards and firefighting.

Fire and Wood is the winter skateboarding competition that was scheduled for Dec. 18 at Land 'O Lakes Skate Park, however, Mother Nature had other plans.

After reviewing weather reports, David Miller, a firefighter with Pasco County Fire and Rescue and a skateboarder himself canceled the event due to rain. Miller say's "we have a rain date of Jan. 29, that's the soonest we could do it, same time and location."

"The main purpose is to give out as many free helmets as we can to prevent traumatic brain injuries," said Miller, who initially took the idea of this event to Pasco County Fire and Rescue.

Miller would like everyone to be reminded that the Fire and Wood Skateboarding Competition will be held at the original location, Land O' Lakes Skate Park, 3032 Collier Pky., with registration starting at 9 a.m. on Jan. 29.  The actual competition will start around 11 a.m. with prizes available for top placers in multiple age categories.

The event is open to skaters in age divisions starting at under 8 and going up to those 16 and over. For more information, visit fireandwood.com.
