Land O’ Lakes residents who want to give back to others have two chances to do so this holiday weekend.

Publix, RaceTrac and Blue Bell Ice Cream have teamed up with Florida Blood Services for a two-day blood drive that includes donation locations throughout the Tampa Bay area. One site has been chosen in the Land O’ Lakes area.

Residents age 16 and up, in good health can stop by the Publix at 18901 State Road 54 in Lutz until 5 p.m. today to give a pint. The Blood Mobile will return tomorrow, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A complete list of donor locations is available on Florida Blood Services' website at fbsblood.org.

For their troubles, donors will receive a $10 RaceTrac gas card and a coupon for a pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream.

"If Blue Bell can help Florida Blood Services save lives, we can't think of a better incentive than to give a pint of blood to get a pint of Blue Bell,” said Lizz Harmon, spokeswoman for Blue Bell Ice Cream.

According to Florida Blood Services, one pint of blood can save two lives.
