Obama Tampa Fundraiser to Include Eddie Vedder, $20,000 Price Tag
Tickets are $20,000 and include a performance by Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder.
Democrats with $20,000 to spare are invited to get up close and personal with President Barack Obama when he comes to Tampa Thursday, Sept 20.
The Hillsborough County Democratic Party is hosting an evening reception with the president at the Tampa home of Lisa DeBartolo and husband Donn Miggs, with a special performance by Eddie Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam. The exact address will be given out when guests RSVP.
DeBartolo is the executive vice president of DeBartolo Holdings LLC and the daughter of Edward DeBartolo Jr., the former owner of the San Francisco 49ers.
This Thursday's fundraiser isn't cheap. According to the Hillsborough County Democratic Party, tickets are $20,000. This is expected be Obama's last major fundraiser before the end of this financial reporting cycle so organizers are hoping for a big turnout.
According to a blog on Tampabay.com, chef Tyler Florence will be cooking the food and the event is expected to be less than 50 people
Those interested should RSVP at this link.
Would you spend $20,000 to meet President Obama and Eddie Vedder?

Does he really think there are people in the Tampa Bay Area that will part with $20,000. Maybe a whole bunch can pitch in and buy 1 ticket. I'm also curious as to how many people even know who Eddie Vedder is without having to google it!

Eddie Vedder has been a long time enviornmental activist as well as an outspoken figure against the war in iraq. I've personally been to four PJ concerts and each one, Vedder sings of antiwar, and primal enviornmental messages. He attracts an age of voters between 25-45, and Obama is smart to have those voters associate his name to Vedder's and PJ, even if an average fan couldn't afford the price of that ticket. I'm supprised, it's not in a large veniew where tickets could be far cheeper. I'd spend 200-300$ just sit in a stadium and hear Vedder jam out with Obama! An Obama cover of Alive would be epic!

The fact that Vedder's hair is an environmental disaster in itself is cause enough to keep the EPA in business along with probably a good percentage of his listeners/followers. But I understand, Andrew....I've just never heard electric bongos in concert. That would be a first!

Attention Florida Seniors on Medicare and All Others Using Government Assistance!!!
This is what Mitt Romney thinks of you and ALL AMERICANS dependent on government support:
“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them.”
“..my job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives”
Mitt Romney, speaking at fundraiser, Spring 2012

Umm, Andrew, yes, in fact, he IS talking about your SS and Medicare. No one is trying to "scare" anyone more than the Obama haters here that are still fixated on his nationality and citizenship years after it was proven. Bradenton is such a slow, republican town that apparently gets all of it's news from YouTube, judging from all of the crazy posts here. And, to my knowledge, it is illegal to purchase lottery tickets or beer with foodstamps, so if you witness this, report the store that allowed it. There will always be people who take advantage of the system (the able-bodied that you speak of), but there are just as many people who actually benefit from government aid, and depend upon it to survive.

Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder have been popular for over 20 years, they have good values, stick to their beliefs and try to protect the innocent. How can anyone be mad or even care whether or not his hair is long? That shouldn't matter in the least. He takes the time to care about the world and support good people. You're not buying a ticket to see them..you're supporting a fund raiser, to help the Obama campaign. If I had the money I'd go for sure. What a great time that would be! Andrew, yes. That is the same Pearl Jam that also has donated ALL of the proceeds from the Last Kiss single to Kosovo War refugees. They also donated a song to an album called No Boundries that benefited the same cause. They have donated songs to albums that benefited women who were abused in the home. They have also done shows for the UN Food Organization, victims of hurricane Katrina, Habitat for Humanity, the Red Cross, and the Jazz Foundation of America. Eddie Vedder was one of the loudest voices to free the West Memphis Three. They also have their own foundation which benefits at least 12 MORE charities. http://pearljam.com/activism/vitalogy-foundation If you take time to listen to their songs, you will see that many of them are very pro-woman. Just because they did one song, one time with Jay-Z and it was HIS song, it doesn't make them bad people or against women. These guys are actually one of the best bands out there ever for giving back to the community.

Last Kiss was the song that was on the No Boundaries CD. Their live album collection from the 2000 tour went to female victims of domestic abuse.
Andrew, so you are saying because they played in a charity event with the event sponsor of his song, that changes all the work they have done and continue to do? That's a little short sighted is it not? The "Made in America" event was a charity event for the United Way. So this is the event you have an issue with?

What we do need more is people like Vedder, speaking out for the sake of our true patriots like Thomas Young, a wounded Vet...Vedder's song "No more" speaks about this in the album "Masters of war". PJ is one of America's last true Rock Bands that are still cranking out albums and voicing genuine activism both enviornmentally and morally. Good news Walt Abba has been offered 1 billion to do 100 concerts, hopefully they will accept; they are still the hottest band all over Europe, they have been inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; On 15 March 2010 ABBA was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Bee Gees members Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb. The ceremony was held at The Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. The group was represented by Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson.
Good music never dies, I love their uplifting music, I also appreciate how they don't tolerate politics & their music being use for political gains as in when Danish People's Party was using their song Mama Mia in rallies which was right after the movie Mama Mia came out in theaters, that led to legal action & got resolved so give me great groups like Abba anytime, politically motivated musicians will never get my dime let alone whopping $20,000 performing at a house party, give me a break, If I had $20,000 I would help my community, do some home improvements & keep the rest for a rainy day, as for those of you who think you know it all, get a life stop trying to push your ideas, you are only fooling yourself, remember what goes around comes around :)

Torrey Craig, there have many Obama fund raising events hitting that same amount. Here's the most recent.
US president Barack Obama has certainly charmed celebrities.
George Clooney recently threw a fund-raiser for the President, and now it is the turn of Beyonce Knowles, 31, and Jay-Z, 42, to aid Mr Obama's re-election campaign.
The power couple will be holding a fund-raiser with Mr Obama at Jay-Z's swanky New York nightclub.
Tickets for the fund-raiser next Tuesday are sold at US$40,000 (S$49,000).
Supporters can donate smaller amounts for a chance to join the festivities (airfare and hotel stay included).
Beyonce wrote in an e-mail to Obama supporters that she is a huge fan of the president, and will do whatever it takes to help him win the election.

Torrey Craig, let me ask you this can you afford $20,000 for a fundraiser??
Logic should tell you if I am objecting to pay $20,000; I am certainly not going to pay even higher amount also I want to make it clear President Obama is currently commander in chief, he needs to stop partying & take responsibility running this nation, also as Jasmine pointed out & I applaud her for it, DeBartolo family has a small office in Tampa but a huge factory in China, shame on them!
As for Mr. Romney having fundraisers, he is not a sitting president, if he was commander in chief & doing what President Obama is doing now, I would object to that as well!
I have one more objection about President Obama, middle east crises is dangerously out of control, we have 4 innocent lives brutally murdered, this is absolutely no time to be having fundraisers, parties that is plain & simple adding insult to injury!
As for what some of you liberals trying to bash Mr. Romney, you'll notice he is not having any fundraisers at the moment with all the crises that is going on!

Whiile I agree that that both men have better things to do than fundraisers, but your comment:
"As for what some of you liberals trying to bash Mr. Romney, you'll notice he is not having any fundraisers at the moment with all the crises that is going on!"
is quite inaccurate. Being the recently released video of Romney was during a recent Fundraiser. Both candidates fundraising hard right now, because they have to report the Q3 fund raising numbers. Romney is gearing up for his Del Marr, California Fundraiser on September 22nd, as part of his final push.

Indeed - this is so indecent and insulting to folks who have hard time making a living. These 50 people, including Obama and his cohort, love to band together in that fashion to avoid contact with what they see as the riff-raff, us the people with no $20K to spare on a lame evening. During that time, common folks are kept barricaded behind the 'free speech' zone euphemism - it's free, one does not have to pay to stand there and because it's so it's nowhere near the ears of all these politicians peddling and parading their political acts .

I love the man's music and I agree with him on some of his activism. But really people, how is this any different then Clint Eastwood at the RNC? The Jon Voight fundraiser during the RNC for the Republican party. Just because they are famous doesn't mean they don't have their own political leanings. Tony,
He did support Gore at some functions, didn't do fundraisers but did rallies like this for Clinton or Gore. Did do a rally for Kerry in Tampa but don't know if it was just a rally or a fundraiser. But he also did some work with the Green Party Candidate in 2000 whom I don't remember. Kiss is a manufactured band for the commerical market. Gene Simmons has been very open about that. Actually the truth is he was only off by a percentage or so. So enough with childish Pinocchios. The point here isn't even about Eddie Vedder, it should really be about the hosts of this event, the DeBartolo's. Small office in Tampa and big factory in China in addition to the President partying it up again during the Middle East Crisis.

Sad to see the seething hatred overflowing - seems the majority of this audience is more interested in histrionics and disparagement than rational comment or productive discourse. Most of them cannot even be funny.
If you cannot respect your opponent or their views you cannot have an effective argument and you are only showing the world what a petty fool you can be.
In the world of political fund raising - this is a typical event - so to deride one side without damning the other is silly.
If the guy can sell tickets at that price - more power to him - until the system can be controlled or reformed.

Who cares! First of all: it is a fundraiser. They are supposed to haul in as much loot as they can. If they can fill the place at $20k per, good for them. Second: Mr. Vedder is a professional performer and an individual, he can chose to play for whomever he wishes- hopefully they paid his quote. And for those aghast at the $20k price tag, this event is not for you. It is for the very wealthy.

Look up this name. It's Christopher Stevens, the former US ambassador to Libya. I say "former" because he was killed JUST LAST WEEK by radicals, along with three other American citizens (some military) in a fire fight which is continuing at our embassies worldwide, putting our personnel and property at risk. All the while, our president sees fit to parade his reelection campaign on the Letterman show this evening while our interests are going down the drain. That's acceptable for you? IT'S NOT FOR ME! - NOVEMBER 6TH! I want a leader - not a celebrity.

Would it be a "blind assumption" to believe you think military action is the only acceptable policy for the US? . And I didn't assume you were FOR Gov. Romney, only that for ignorant reasons you used the name of an honorable man killed in action to be against President Obama. 1. Release the Blind Sheik to Israel.

4. Conduct a drone strike on the summit meeting place.
5. Four problems solved.

Oh, GC, you don't really expect people that constantly drink the Fox Propaganda Network Kool-Aid, and subscribe to right wing loony websites, to care about the truth, do you?
Here's what the Media Matters blog has reported:
"Fox hyped a flatly-denied rumor that the Obama administration was considering releasing a convicted terrorist to Egypt. The network then used that rumor to suggest that Obama may send American citizens to Egypt to be killed for insulting Islam.
Glenn Beck's website The Blaze and Breitbart.com reported that an anonymous source close to the Obama administration said that the State Department was considering Egypt's request to transfer Omar Abdel-Rahman to Egypt. Abdel-Rahman, commonly called the "Blind Sheikh," was convicted after being accused of masterminding the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
But Department of Justice spokesman Dean Boyd told The Blaze that the rumor was "utter garbage."
Fox & Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson said that Fox had "not been able to confirm" the Blind Sheikh story, but nevertheless ran a four-minute segment on it, which went completely off the rails."
The radical right wing loonies start with one big lie, and then wildly extrapolate on that lie to create five new lies, etc, etc, etc, etc

Two former Guantanamo Bay detainees who were repatriated or resettled by the Obama administration have engaged in terrorist activities and another three former detainees are suspected of returning to the fight, according to a report released Tuesday by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Now I know you are going to ask what is this have to do with the Blind Sheik so let me explain, 2 terrorists who were released are the same ones who killed Chris Stevens on 911, they are connected to the Blind Sheik & Zawarii these are extremely dangerous criminals who hate Americans, look I honestly hope this is all wrong but I can't help but wonder why those 2 terrorists were released in the first place also I want to make it clear I never rely on one source, look you can search for foreign newspapers if it is in a foreign language you can right click then click on translate to english, also don't leave anything to chance today I called up republican & democrat senators told them I oppose the release of Blind Sheik, everybody needs to do the same, I honestly doubt any of you would want this dangerous criminal to be released...

The Joseph Goebels News Network has reported that the US State Department has signed a treaty with the Romulans, and pledged that all white males between the ages of 18 and 65 will serve two year terms in the Blue Helmet Forces of the Romulan Empire.
On that basis Glenn Breitbart, lead anchor for Goebels, has theorized that this means that Obama will now release the five Klingons, who someone's fourth cousin in Charlston claimed are being held in Area 51, to the Gamma Sigma terrorist brigade based on the planet Alderaan.
The fact that the twelve captured Klingons, part of the Klingon invasion force which the Obama-led US Armed Forces has been unable to locate, are now being granted preferred work-visa status by Obama's left-wing Immigration and Nationalization Service, is cited by other unidentified sources as proof that socialism now exists in this country.
Once those fifty-seven Klingons receive their visas, it is expected that they will take over the public library system in the United States, thereby rendering everyone not now watching Goebels News as clueless as those who do.

I also find something else very interesting & as always these are facts how President Obama & Secretary Clinton blamed the anti islam video for the embassy riot & killing of 4 innocent lives now all of a sudden they realized that it was a well planned setup & that video was used by the terrorists as a decoy to upset the muslim nations & cause a huge riot which we have all been watching over & over on all major news stations, my question is how could White House not realize with all the evidence like what Chris Stevens tried to tell them that he was on the hit list of al queda which was ignored; then report which warned them about the possibility of an attack which was ignored; major logic how could there be doubt it being 911 & the threat being ignored, there should have been security to protect the 4 innocent lives & sadly there was none, how could they trust Libyan security forces to protect the victims of this tragic injustice again evidence shown on CNN, too much controversy going on & all the accounts are not adding up so in view of all this we all need to wake up & ask the million dollar question why we are in this foreign policy mess???
Michael D.
9:25 am on Friday, September 21, 2012
GBOWR,
Why are we in the mess, because for the last 30 years we have been putting ourselves in this mess. It didn't start with Obama, Bush, etc... The joined administrations of Reagan and Carter showed weakness and lack of forth. We armed people who are not using that arms and training against us. Because they were the temporary enemy of our enemy. This mess has been going on for Decades, and unfortunitely instead of being viewed as a real problem for so long, we dismissed it. Now that small problem is a big problem because instead of working together and fixing the mess we have been playing politics with it. And apparently the two fools running for office are continuing to play politics with it. We keep talking about the 4 people who unfortunitely lost their lives in this mess, but not the thousands who have lost there lives in creating this mess to begin with. We have to stop blaming Bush and Obama and start viewing this issue for what it is. Misreading a situation and failing to fix it.

Who even when shown the "facts" he is reporting are inaccurate, he fights saying that he knows he is right... even when historically inaccurate. Dinesh D'Souza is just the conservative version of Michael Moore. Who takes half-truth and sells them as facts. Yes, lets all believe a guy who is selling an opinion as fact. I guess we should also take his word when he blamed our society for the 9/11 attacks in his other book. Because he is soooo correct about Obama, he must be right that we were the cause of some terriorists attacking us on our soil (2007 book). For Ms Largo, you must be smoking something illegal if you think that crap is factual; I sure wouldn't suggest that Michael Moore's Farenheit 9/11 was factual, would you?
What Allies Granpa wrote is just as truthful as the 2016 anti-Obama propaganda movie that you are pushing.
In fact, I think that he is understating the numbers of Klingons on the loose; I counted at least one hundred in the video sweeping of the delegates at the GOP convention. That was a large part of the non-white contingent for the Republicans.
But, you probably only watch the Goebbels News Network and listen to that windbag Limbaugh, and sift through conspiracy-focused right wing extremist websites, as your sources of "information."

But if you want to believe Dr. D'Souza then you will also believe that women's place isn't in the work place competeting against men (2003 book). That American society is what caused the 9/11 attacks (2007 book). Also that same-sex marriages do not work, because it is women who civilize men, and they should be in the homemakers. Well Lynda we have nothing against President Obama, we think he is a great guy, he is probably an excellent attorney & if I needed an attorney I would most likely hire him in a heartbeat but when it comes to being Commander in Chief, he is not good at it, he has shown that in the 4 years he is been in the White House & don't ask me to list them because it has already been listed you need to scroll up & read what I have written now as for your throwing the race card once again, let me make it clear one more time, I have many wonderful African-American friends in my complex & by the way they don';t like the way President Obama is running our nation either especially what happened overseas all the government spending & Obamacare, people are tired of his policies & these are people who voted for him!
Here's some great African-American leaders & I have high admiration for, I salute them & if any of them were running for the Presidency I would be proud to vote for them, well here are their names;
J.C. Watts Jr; Michael S. Steele, Jennifer Carroll, Condoleezza Rice, Tim Scott, Michael L. Williams, J. Kenneth Blackwell, Thomas Sowell but the greatest man who lived through the turbulent 60's, I wish he was alive Martin Luther King, he would have made a great president unfortunately democrats took that away from him, contrary to popular belief he was a republican & I have proof......to be continued on next post!

This is from the National Black Republicans website;
Here's a great lady Francis Rice who wrote the following:
The National Black Republican Association (NBRA) is dedicated to promoting the traditional values of the black community which are in concert with the core Republican Party philosophy of strong families, personal responsibility, quality education and equal opportunities for all. This focus on shared values gives the NBRA a unique perspective and influence in shaping public policy debates on issues of importance to the black community.
The NBRA was founded in 2005 to be a permanent black Republican presence working to enhance ties between the black community and the Republican Party.
Our vision is to help black Americans become power players in the political arena and move into our ownership society, emphasizing small business and home ownership. Education is the civil right of the 21st century. A key issue the NBRA will champion is school choice opportunity scholarships to give black parents educational options and access to a quality education.
Join us and be a part of our aggressive grassroots activities across the country to return black Americans to their Republican Party roots. Together we can change the political and economic dynamics in black communities. Together we can make America better for our families, our communities and future generations.

Here's an article from the same website;
MLK Was A Republican Billboard Campaign Was A Huge Success
Thanks to all of our supporters who helped to rain on Obama's parade and expose the fallacy of Obama's comparing himself to MLK!
The Democrats showed up in Denver for their convention to anoint Obama as the "Messiah" and were greeted by our MLK billboards. The Democrats were not happy campers!
An indication of the success of our MLK billboard campaign came from an unlikely source. One liberal pundit, Jeffrey Toobin, lamented on CNN that "Barack Obama will not assume the mantle of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." YES!
Our MLK billboard campaign worked and stopped Obama dead in his tracks. Obama was poised to give his political acceptance speech on the 45th anniversary of MLK's inspirational "I Have a Dream" civil rights speech. Obama is no MLK. Obama is a far left-wing radical Democrat who does not share our values. MLK was a minister and a Republican who embraced our traditional values.

Michael Steele was pushed out of the GOP so far he had to become a commentator on MSNBC. During his tenure, the big GOP money was moved into organizations controlled by among others, Karl Rove. So just how can you argue he is considered a "great Black leader" by the GOP? And voting for Condoleezza Rice is voting for a war criminal just as much as voting for Bush/Cheney was so her "Blackness" is beside the point. If you are so "annoyed by this racism issue", stop attacking President Obama and start telling us why you are FOR Romney/Ryan in this election. Your attacks (mostly without facts) lead to one conclusion only, you hate President Obama because of his racial background otherwise you would tell us what you are FOR.

I am voting FOR President Obama because (1) he is Pro-Choice and respects the rights of women to follow their own beliefs in health care and family planning decisions, (2) he successfully pulled combat troops from Iraq, a war he (and I) opposed from the beginning, (3) he managed the process of beginning to re-build a financial system which was in crisis, (4) His first piece of legislation was the Lilly Ledbetter Equal Pay act (5) He will support equal opportunity access to higher education through reforms in the student loan system and regulating for-profit schools (6) He supports our troops with more than words: he put money into care for veterans and attention into solving problems that come with the huge number of old and new veterans needing health care.(7) he represents the United States with dignity and manages a complex foreign policy (8) he has appointed qualified people to positions and does not have an anti-choice litmus test for judges (9) He consistently reminds all citizens that the power of government comes from the involvement of everyone. We are the government and if we want change, then we better fight for it. If we want hope, then we better be building healthy communities. (10) he does not give up or get tired of working for the "arc of history to bend towards justice". Can you give 10 reasons to vote FOR Romney/Ryan?

Lynda
1. He wants a healthy economy
2. He knows how to build businesses and create jobs
3. He knows and understands world economics
4. He has successfully and profitably managed large companies.
5. He knows how to cut government spending and increase consumer consumer spending
6. He is against Obamacare
7. He believes each state should have the right to govern their own affairs
8. He believes in a strong military and protecting our boarders
9. He has strong, positive and charitable morals
10.He has government experience and knows how to work with the other party
11.And I would hate to see our country turn into a socialist country which is what we are on our way to if Obama is re-elected.

I wish you hadn't spoiled a nice post with your last snarky comment about "socialism". You really, really need to read some more books and look up the definition of some of the words you use in your attacks. If you think this is now or will become, as "socialist" country if President Obama is reelected, there is a good deal on Rolex watches I want to tell you about, a special deal for you only, much below cost . . . . Lynda it was not a "snarky" comment. It is one of my 11 reasons. And I know enough and have read enough and have been around the block and out of the neighborhood enough to know the writing is on the wall. You like his foreign policy. Even with what has been going in the middle east, his not wanting to meet with Netanyahu. Maybe you have bought into too many of those Rolex deals. He has divided this country, unemployment, foreclosures, trillion dollar deficit. When asked how much the deficit was - he didn't know, when asked about the deficit he said it wasn't important in the SHORT TERM. And when is he working, he's hardly ever working. And cute with quoting MLK, nice touch.

Lynda, I am not a cynic at all. I voted for Obama in 2008 in spite of my misgivings about his level of experience and his favoring the continuation/expansion of the futile war in Afghanistan. After four years I cannot for the life of me understand why the Republicans don't like Obama. He has followed Bush's foreign policy to the letter "ending" the Iraq War at a time previously negotiated by Bush. He kowtows to Netanyahu. On the economy he continued policies Bush and his Goldman Sachs handler Hank Paulson put in place on their way out of office. To manage the economy, Obama hired Timothy Geithner and Larry Summers who both had been mentored by Robert Rubin, Goldman Sachs handler of Bill Clinton. His idea of healthcare reform was Romneycare writ large, Obama could easily be described as our first black Republican President.
Needless to say, the coreless Romney will follow Obama's policies as Obama followed Bush's.
"And George, I have lived too long to waste my time with cynics who do not wish to leave their world a better place." You, madam, are arrogant and not in touch with reality. We live under a system of plutocracy covered with a very light veneer of democracy. I will match my record of service to this country and world with yours any day.
Lynda

Well, George, I am very sorry for hurting your feelings. Who knew from your posts that you would be so sensitive to being called a cynic; I assumed it was a matter of pride with you. And since I gave up competition when I retired, I certainly will concede your record of service to world is much better than mine. The only difference, I am still trying. You have apparently given up. I am astonished that four years ago you were able to put aside your feelings that you live in a "plutocracy with a thin veneer of democracy" and vote for President Obama. And, now, just four years later, your disappointment is so great that you will not vote at all. Just what kind of magic did you expect from President Obama? Anyone who voted for him thinking he was going to wave some kind of wand and the disaster that was our financial crisis would just go away and the disaster that was Iraq would just end by sprinkling pixie dust over the country was certainly going to be disappointed. Many of us who voted for President Obama knew he was a talented politician with a center-right pragmatism our country needed to clean up the mess from the previous 8 years of crony government headed by a Texas oil man and a Wyoming neo-con who, by the way, was one of the most experienced men to ever serve as President in fact. We did not expect the GOP to obstruct everything he tried to do and to deny policies they invented. You know the reason they obstruct him-- will continue obstructing-- as well I do.
George Gould
1:10 am on Tuesday, September 25, 2012
Lynda, no apology is necessary. Neither seeing the world as it is nor realizing one's limitations in making changes to that world make one a cynic.
Even though I see our system as a plutocracy with a democratic veneer, that doesn't mean I never act foolishly and attempt to change the system if I think change is possible. I thought I saw that possibility with Obama in 2008. I didn't expect miracles from him and I recognize the obstructionism of the Republicans on Capitol Hill. Even knowing that he would protect his wealthy supporters on Wall Street, I did not think he would totally oversee Bush's 3rd term in office. I don't think he has made the country worse but he has done almost nothing to make it better either. That is why I honestly don't see him as any different from Romney. Actually Obama is cooler but Romney is funnier (unintentionally). Come 2016, it will make no difference whom we elected in 2012. The world will be as it will be.That is just my opinion. Yours may differ. I'm sure it does. So be it.
"You know the reason they obstruct him-- will continue obstructing-- as well I do." You call the Republicans racists. They call Obama a Socialist and a Muslim among other things. Most of them are no more racist than Obama is a Socialist or a Muslim. Stupid charges. It's all part of American politics. Political campaigns are part of the bread and circuses offered us by the plutocrats to make us think we really have a say in how we are governed..

But, I must confess pleasure at seeing someone in the radical right trying to say nice things about Dr King, even though they are twisting the nice things so that they can then say what Dr King, and all those who struggled with him for equal rights for all Americans, would never say about President Obama.
Fortunately, the great fact-checking site, PolitiFact.com has already ruled that claims that Dr King was a Republican were FALSE.
You can read the full ruling at:
http://www.politifact.com/tennessee/statements/2012/jan/23/charlotte-bergmann/another-republican-claims-martin-luther-king-jr-wa/
The fact is that in the 1940's and 1950's, the Democrats in the deep South were the segregationists in those states, and that was a holdover from the anti-Republican (i.e, Lincoln Republicans, not today's Republicans) sentiments after the post-Civil War reconstruction period. However, those segregationist Democrats reacted to Democratic President Lyndon Johnson's great push of the Voting Rights Act and other legislation which made America more fair than it had been. Those segregationists in the old Democratic Party became the new Republicans in Nixon's southern strategy.
So, GBOWR, stop the hysterical lies and distortions and deal with TODAY's Democrats and TODAY's Republicans, and not those of sixty or seventy years ago.

Democrats Smeared MLK in the 1960's By Frances Rice
Character assassination. That's the tactic used by Democrats in the 1960's to
discredit Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. a Republican who was fighting the
Democrats and trying to stop them from denying civil rights to blacks.
The relentless disparagement of Dr. King by Democrats led to his being
physically assaulted and ultimately to his tragic death. In March of 1968, while
referring to Dr. King's leaving Memphis, Tennessee after riots broke out where
a teenager was killed, Democrat Senator Robert Byrd, a former member of the
Ku Klux Klan, called Dr. King a "trouble-maker" who starts trouble, but runs
like a coward after trouble is ignited. A few weeks later, Dr. King returned to
Memphis and was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
Prior to his death, Democrats bombed Dr. King's home several times. The scurrilous efforts by the
Democrats to harm Dr. King included spreading rumors that he was a Communist and accusing him
of being a womanizer and a plagiarist.
Freedom
11:17 pm on Sunday, September 23, 2012
An egregious act against Dr. King occurred on
October 10, 1963. With the approval of Democrat
President John F. Kennedy, Democrat Attorney
General Robert F. Kennedy – President Kennedy's
brother – authorized the wiretapping of Dr. King's
telephone by the Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI). Wiretaps were placed by the FBI on the
telephones in Dr. King's home and office. The FBI
also bugged Dr. King's hotel rooms when he traveled
around the country. The trigger for this unsavory wiretapping was
apparently Dr. Kings' criticism of the Kennedy
Administration, according to the author David Garrow
in his book, “Bearing the Cross”. The justification
given by the Kennedy Administration publicly was
that two of Dr. King's associates, including David
Levinson, had ended their association with the
Communist Party in order to work undercover and
influence Dr. King. However, after years of
continuous and extensive wiretapping, the FBI found
no direct links of Dr. King to the Communist Party.

The unrelenting efforts by Democrats to tarnish Dr.
King's reputation continued for years after his death.
To his credit, Republican President Ronald Reagan
ignored the Democrats' smear campaign and made
Dr. King's birthday a holiday.
Today, while professing to revere Dr. King, Democrats are still trying to sully his image by making
remarks that diminish his civil rights achievements and continuing to claim that Dr. King embraced
Communism – a system that is secularist and socialist.
Freedom
11:18 pm on Sunday, September 23, 2012
In reality, Dr. King was a Christian who held deeply religious beliefs and was guided by his faith and
his Republican Party principles in his struggle to gain equality for blacks. He did not embrace the
type of socialist, secularist agenda that is promoted by the Democratic Party today, which includes
fostering dependency on welfare that breaks up families, supporting same-sex marriage and banning
God from the public square.
An understanding of who the real Dr. King was can be gained from a glimpse of Dr. King as a young
man who participated in an oratorical contest when he was 14 years old. The title of his speech was
"The Negro and the Constitution" which had the following sentences: "We cannot have an
enlightened democracy with one great group living in ignorance…We cannot be truly Christian people
so long as we flout the central teachings of Jesus: brotherly love and the Golden Rule…."
If Dr. King were still alive, he would be slandered by Democrats in the same way that they smeared
him in the 1960's and demean all black Republicans today.

Once again, GBOWR is going back fifty years - that's not five years, that's FIFTY years - in order to extrapolate old data, & ignore current data, in order to attack President Obama.
Oh, & I love the "objective" source he/she uses, the National Black Republican Association; wait, now, what was that third word, oh yes, REPUBLICAN.
Yeah, right, a really "objective" source in an election year.
But, just so GBOWR can be clear, I am not a liberal (certainly a pejorative word in his/her universe) but I am a centrist Republican. Yes, that's right, Republican. Always was, & always will be. Unlike Dick Lugar, or Olympia Snowe, this centrist Republican can't be driven out of the GOP, so too bad.
I simply believe in truth, rather than fiction.
And trying to disort the present based upon events in the very distant past, which is the approach by GBOWR, is not truthful.
Neither candidate, Obama or Romney, is an ideal example of what I would want as my President. But, Romney is so seriously flawed that centrist Republicans like me, and centrist independents, have to flock to Obama - good progress - by default.
The failure of the past few years are much less his doing than the responsibility of the Tea Party Republicans of the House, and the Mitch McConnell attitude in the Senate, intending to make Obama a one-term President as their first objective.
My party, and the Democratic Party, in the 70's and 80's put the best interests of the country first and foremost.

We have certainly been hearing a lot from the Romney campaign about how polls don't mean anything (a typical response from any candidate down in the polls), but Nate Silver has collected and done a great analysis on how late Sept. polls have been a pretty accurate predictor of the actual winner in November:
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/24/the-statistical-state-of-the-presidential-race/?gwh=5EF8A26AB0E3EE9AB54C2C6ABE8CBF36
Right now, conservatives are just desperately and wildly slinging feces with both hands and hoping that will do some damage. They see how statistically improbable it has become for a Romney win.

GBOWR, who wants to change your mind? I've never accused you of being a racist. Your writings do not lead me to believe that. I am glad that you are a proud republican if that gives your life meaning and I would neither try to change your mind nor stop you from expressing yourself.
I'd like to offer one piece of advice about something you may not have considered. There are two types of racism; one practiced by those who dislike black people simply because of the color of their skin and the other practiced by people who like black people but who do not think black people can advance without white leadership (namely themselves).
The first is practiced by SOME Republicans, certainly NOT BY ALL. Many of the white southerners who transitioned from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party in the late 60s and early 70s fell into this category. They were drawn into the Republican Party by Nixon's pursuit of the Southern Strategy.
The second is practiced by SOME Democrats, certainly NOT BY ALL. These are the ones who accuse all Republicans of racism. They do not want you cutting in on their action.
Also try a little less hyperbole. You don't really have "millions of friends I know," do you? And your "community is all proud republicans" is a bit of a stretch, isn't it? No democrats? No independents? I find that hard to believe.
