Pill Drops Put Drugs in Their Place
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring three drop-off events over the next two weekends.
Need a safe, legal place to dispose of old prescription pills and over-the counter medications?
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has you covered.
The agency is sponsoring three upcoming pill drops in Central and West Pasco. The drops take place at the following locations, according to the sheriff's office's Facebook page:
- Crews Lake Wilderness Park, 16739 Crews Lake Drive in Shady Hills, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Gulfview Mall in the parking lot next to U.S. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 28.
- The Shops at Wiregrass in the first floor of the parking garage from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 28.
The drops are designed to provide an anonymous, simple way for participants to dispose of their unwanted, unused, or expired medications. All people need to do is “drive up, drop off, and drive away,” said Pasco County Cpl. Alan Wilkett in a previous interview. “No personal information will be asked for or collected.”
Making sure prescription drugs are disposed of properly is a concern for the sheriff’s office on several levels, Wilkett said.
“The Pill Drop enables the proper disposal of these medications, which keeps the active ingredients from potentially entering the water tables or raw food supplies,” he said. “It also serves to take these medications off the streets and out of the hands of the unauthorized.”
