Rockus Maximus Amps It Up for 15th Year

The annual battle of the bands featured eight talented young bands plus a few solo performances that kept the crowd on their feet all night long.

Over the course of five-plus hours Friday, youth bands from all over the Bay area rocked out in the Pasco County Library System’s Rockus Maximus XV Battle of the Bands.

Eight bands competed against each other in an evening concert at the Rotary Pavilion at The Concourse in Shady Hills. The first-place winner, MBL Trio, netted $1,000 and 10 hours of recording time at Morrisound Recording Studios in Tampa. The second-place band, South of Holly, won five hours of recording time. Third-place winner, The Northwest, won three hours of recording time.

Winners were chosen based on scoring from a panel of youth and adult judges, which included the editors of New Port Richey Patch and Land O' Lakes Patch.

The top three winners of Rockus Maximus XV were:

1st Place: MBL Trio, of Lutz

Members: 

Michael Lindo-18, Lead Vocals, Guitar

Lorenzo Lindo- 16, Bass

Ben Kennett-17, Drums

2nd Place:  South of Holly

Members:

Bobby Creighton - 21, from Tampa, and plays bass guitar and lead vocals.

Kyle Goodrich - 21, from Melbourne, plays guitar and backing vocals.

Will Crowley - 21, from Lakeland, plays guitar and harmonica.

Isaac Evans - 21, from Bradenton, plays dercussion/drums.

3rd Place:  The Northwest, of Sarasota

Derek Luna - 20, Vocals, Bass

Dylan Buckley - 17, Lead Guitar

Pete Bell - 19, Keyboards
Cameron Luna - 14, Drums

There was also an online voting component of Rockus Maximus that lasted for several weeks. Lights at Night won first place in the online competition, netting a $500 gift card to Encore Music.
