Controversial Staff Changes, Connerton Issues on Tap at Tonight's Meeting

Recommendations and re-appointments—at least one controversial—are on Tuesday's 6 p.m. meeting agenda.

Facing its fifth consecutive year of budget shortfalls, with a projected deficit of $25.3 million next year,  the Pasco County School District began cutting teachers and staff positions earlier this month.

Now, administrative recommendations and re-appointments are on the board's agenda for tonight's meeting, and at least one has stirred up controversy.

Amelia Van Name Larson, who has overseen the district's Response to Intervention program, is recommended for appointment as a vice principal, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Board member Allen Altman questioned why Fiorentino would seek to displace someone with her strong reputation, recently telling the Times that he would seek more explanations at tonight's board meeting.

Parents calling for the removal of Ana Falcone as principal of Connerton Elementary are also expected to speak at tonight's board meeting.

The Pasco County School Board meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 at the District Office complex, building #3 North, 7205 Land O’ Lakes Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.

Tonight's meeting agenda is available here. Stay with Land O' Lakes Patch for updates.

Was there any official discussion about any of this last night? I had to leave after the public had an opportunity to speak to get my Son to his Scout meeting.

Hi Bryan,
The personnel recommendations were all approved by the board, but the appointment of Amelia Van Name Larson to a vice principal position was not included in the meeting addenda. A story on the meeting and the district's response is forthcoming.
