Thousands of Progress Energy Customers Without Power
Widespread outages have been reported in Pinellas and Pasco counties.
Progress Energy customers without power in the Tampa Bay area might have to buckle in for a long ride.
“It could possibly be a multi-day outage at this point,” said Leah Bickley, spokeswoman for Progress Energy. “We have to wait until the conditions are safe.”
Bickley said about 80,000 customers had power restored yesterday, but more than 23,000 remain without in Progress Energy's multi-county service area courtesy of Tropical Storm Debby. Crews are assessing the damage and are making repairs as they can.
According to Progress Energy’s outage map, 7,879 customers are without power in Pinellas County. Another 809 remain without power in Pasco.
