What Would You Improve in Land O' Lakes in 2013?
If you could make a New Year's resolution for the community, what would it be?
More than 45 percent of Americans make a resolution every year, according to statisticbrain.com. Some people vow to live a healthier lifestyle, others promise to spend more time with family, and many say they will try to save money.
As millions of Americans make resolutions to improve their lives, what could we do right here in Land O' Lakes to make it an even better place to live?
We recently asked our Facebook fans if there was anything they would like to see improve in the coming year:
"Yes, an officer at each of the elementary schools when the kids come back and some fencing and high tech maybe fingerprint sign in. Gates look outs!" -Wendy Seth
"What (Seth) said!" - Amy Nicole
"Pay raise for teachers and police officers." -Sara Law Bailey
And in a recent post, we highlighted the thoughts of a Patch reader, who said State Road 54 and U.S. 41 concern him greatly, as "the most dangerous roads in the Land O' Lakes area."
Other readers responded by pointing out the prevalence of speeders, tailgaters and generally discourteous drivers.
"We all need to learn to be better drivers. Get off the phone, and watch the road!," Lorraine Stevenski wrote.

I think our town needs a nice but inexpensive motel/hotel for visiting familes and for tourist..I have just the property for that 6.9 acres on a Lake on 41 that is ideally suited for such a place...Just need the right investors that want to provide this service.

I would like to see more of the popular restaurants develop such as Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Golden Corral, Sweet Tomatoes, etc. and also more places for the teenagers and young adults to hang out at like a skating rink, a movie theater, a game room, etc. like we had in the good old days!

I would like to see more street lights throughout the city. Even on some of the major roads, it's difficult to see at night because it's so dark. This is obviously a safety concern, and I wonder why it hasn't been addressed before.

Someone needs to check on our Dade City County court system. People are not doing their jobs. People show up for court because they were subpoened and told oh you should have been told that is now not necessary or people come and they do not bring inmates from jail (this has happened twice to a woman)so it is not necessary for her to be in court. At 10 am,, the judge just sends inmates back and says they will do something later.

Finishing the Ridge Road extension would be a great time and fuel saver to get to 19. An american buffet restaurant or steak house is greatly needed in Land O'Lakes on Hwy 41 North. Even a fast food place would be welcome. There is no place to go around this great area even for the high school students and employees.

Pass Legalized Vegas Style Gambling and Build a Florida Version of Las Vegas Right Smack in the Middle of Land O Lakes......Then Eliminate Property Taxes for Home Owners.....Treat the Profits like Indian Casinos and Share with Every Existing Laker who has resided here for 10 years or longer.

We need more good restaurants! NOT a chain and not take -out...but family owned neighborhood restaurants we can go to. Italian, American, Chinese... Upscale Pizza. I miss having local places to go since I have moved here a few years ago. We have to drive all the way down Dale Mabry to get to good places to eat. Also...when they built the Collier Parkway extension did they forget the street lights? It is so dark when we drive to our subdivision. Also...US 41 is an eyesore and the run down properties need to be sold with new businesses revitalizing Land O Lakes.
