Q: My 14 year old grandson is the catcher on his little
league team. For a long time now he has maintained a workout routine and is
strong and fit. My question goes to the use of "knee savers." I've heard both
sides of this conversation...they do help your knees.....they are bad for your
knees because of the prying action they apply to the joint. The second seems to
make most sense to me. What do you know? KP
A: "Knee savers" pad the back of the knee joint and reduce the strain of squatting for extended periods. Along with leg protectors, they enhance safety for the catcher. I could not determine any negatives for "Knee Savers." Coaches should be up on safety equipment for players and are always an excellent source of information as well as doctors involved in sports medicine.
