Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges …

Close Presidential Race in Florida Draws Attention of the Nation

Voters in Florida still have questions surrounding who gets the state's 29 Electoral votes.

President Barack Obama appeared on the road to re-election when he was declared the winner in Ohio. But a victory in the state of Florida was considered essential in order for Gov. Mitt Romney to win the seat. The eyes of the nation remained on Florida overnight as the margin between the candidates here remained less than 1 percent with many votes left to be counted. A recount in the state would be mandatory if the margin is one-half of 1 percent or smaller once all votes are counted. A recount would be easier than in 2000. Florida no longer uses punch-card ballots. All counties now use electronic voting systems. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for the Democratic candidate, and since the 1990s has voted for the overall …

Comint is indeed a type of Sigint, and I meant to say Elint (also a type of Sigint). And yes, there are multiple types of intel, but my point was that there are often conflicts in information that is coming in in real time and I was giving examples. In the Benghazi situation, I'd professionally wager that the best source will be Humint, supplemented by Comint. And, as multiple echelons were …   more ›

Florida’s Constitutional Amendments: What Passed, What Didn’t and What That Means

Take a closer look at the 11 constitutional amendments and how Floridians voted on them.

The Nov. 6 ballot was one of the largest Florida voters have ever seen and here’s why: there were 11 proposed constitutional amendments up for consideration. Amendments require a 60 percent or higher approval rate to pass. Based on results calculated by the state’s Division of Elections, here’s what passed and what didn’t at of 1 a.m. Nov. 7: Florida Amendment 1: Health Care Services – Fail With most of Florida’s precincts reporting, this amendment did not meet the 60 percent requirement to pass. The amendment would have given Florida the ability to opt out of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Florida Amendment 2: Veterans Disabled to Combat Injury; Homestead Property Tax Discount – Pass With most of …

Romney Gets Majority of Pasco's Votes

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has carried Pasco County.

The results are in and Pasco County has named its choice for the White House. Former Gov. Mitt Romney has taken the county with 52.5 percent of the vote. A total of 110,563 ballots were cast in Romney’s favor within Pasco County. Democratic President Barack Obama came in second with 96,360 ballots cast in his favor, which works out to 45.81 percent, according to the Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Office. While Romney won’t gain any precious electoral votes from Pasco County alone, he can say he carried the county. The county has traditionally voted Republican in presidential races. In 2008, Pasco voters favored Republican challenger John McCain, giving him 51.07 percent, or 110,104 of the votes cast. Obama garnered 102,417 or 47.51 …

Bogart is 'Done'

Kim Bogart's campaign has come to an end and the Democrat says he won't seek the Pasco County Sheriff's seat again.

Pasco County Sheriff candidate  Kim Bogart was hosting a watch party in the kitchen of his New Port Richey area home Tuesday night when it became clear voting wasn't going in his favor. Bogart’s most recent bid to become Pasco County’s top cop came to an end even before it was reported that votes from all precincts in Pasco had been tallied. Bogart, 60, is a former captain and major with the Pasco sheriff’s office.  He hoped to oust incumbent Sheriff Chris Nocco. He ran his campaign this election season under the slogan "Public Safety, Not Politics." But early voting and absentee results alone, projected on a TV in Bogart’s home, showed Nocco was gaining the upper hand on Election Night by a large margin. Then precinct numbers started …

By the way, those absolute statements like "everybody knows blah, blah, blah" are usually wrought with errors. I remember hearing Chuck Colson speak of this a few years ago: www.religiontoday.com/columnists/breakpoint/we-need-better-experts-crime-and-poverty.html Being that I verified what I thought to be "true," I decided to check some 2012 info: www.csmonitor.com/USA/2012/0612/US-violent-crime-…   more ›

Penny For Pasco Passes

Pasco County voters will continue to pay an extra cent in sales taxes.

When Pasco County voters went to the polls today, they were asked if they are willing to continue paying a 1-cent sales tax to fund school construction projects, transportation programs and other infrastructure-related ventures. The answer is yes. Pasco voters cast 134,459 ballots in favor of the measure or 69.81 percent with 108 of 110 precincts reporting. Only 58,136 people, or 30.19 percent, voted against it. The tax was set to expire in 2014. Today’s vote means it will be extended for another 10-year run. Initially approved in 2004, the bulk of money generated by what’s officially called the Local Government Infrastructure Surtax is evenly divided between the county and school district with Pasco’s cities divvying up 10 percent. The …

Nathaniel, people "in general" can be ignorant, but many people "down south" (especially here in Florida) seem to be deprived of brain cells. If I had children ... and could afford to move out of state ... I would relocate to another part of the country where the educational system has much higher standards and the population is more refined. Living in the south will "dumb down" kids like nothing…   more ›

After 34 years in U.S., Land O' Lakes Woman Wants to Repay Country She Loves

The Obama campaign volunteer spent the morning canvassing neighborhoods in the rain, reminding residents to get out and vote.

Hta Delphin has only lived in Land O' Lakes for about a year. But she's lived in the U.S. for 34 years. And she's proud of it. "I want to pay back this country because I love this country," Delphin said. "And I know this president will do the best job for this country." Delphin was thrilled when she found the opportunity to get involved in President Obama's campaign on a local level, she said. She spent the day canvasssing neighborhoods in the rain and campaigning at the Land O' Lakes Recreation Complex Tuesday "because I want to be a part of it," Delphin said. Delphin said she has enjoyed every minute of the experience. "Our volunteers are wonderful," she said. And of course, she's hoping for an Obama victory. I'm not a blind believer." …
