Baby Gator Pays Pasco Home a Visit

The sheriff's office snapped a shot while waiting for wildlife officials to arrive to remove the interloper from the scene.

A Trinity Oaks family had quite a surprise recently when a young alligator showed up on the doorstep to pay a visit.

Not entirely welcome, the gator was eventually removed by wildlife officials. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office came out to keep an eye on the critter while a trapper was called in. Deputies even snapped a shot that made the sheriff's office's Facebook page.

The unwanted guest’s appearance raised the question: What should Land O' Lakes residents do if they find a gator or other potentially dangerous animal at their door?

"If a citizen sees an alligator on their property, please immediately call the Pasco Sheriff's Office,” answered Melanie Snow, spokeswoman for the agency. “We will come out to assess the situation and restrain the animal, if necessary, until a trapper can arrive to remove it."
