Dr. Deborah Hawley Named Honorary Mayor

Her campaign raised more than $9,000 for the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

The fundraising season for Land O' Lakes' Honorary Mayor came to a close as the holiday season got under way for the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce. The winner was announced at the chamber Christmas party held Dec. 6 at the Plantation Palms Country Club.

"I've really enjoyed it, it's been a great race," Dr. Deborah Hawley said, after joking that it was actually her husband who talked her into running.

"My husband decided this was a great idea," Hawley laughed.

The $9,000 Hawley raised will benefit the chamber and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Rene Van Hout's campaign raised $6,000, which will be split between the chamber, Heritage Park Foundation and Oasis Pregnancy Center.

The race was fair and friendly, Van Hout said. Both candidates were in it for the same reason—to support the chamber and raise money for great causes, she said.
