Halloween Haunts Scare Up Screams

Glen McClure and family are getting into the Halloween spirit in the best possible way.

There’s a carriage parked in Glen McClure’s yard, and a maniacal clown is flashing a toothy smile from within.

Yup. It looks Halloween the spirit is haunting the New Port Richey area.

For years, McClure, who works at Tibbets Lumber in Land O’ Lakes,  has decorated his yard for the Halloween season with a menagerie of horrors.

And he's doing so again this month, resurrecting some old friends and adding new ones.

An old mummy stands sentinel at the gate to the yard. There are witches on the roof of the McClure home.  There are skeletal pirate near the porch.

McClure is known to lurk among the decorations at night, in costume. You might find him doing so this year in the lead up to Halloween and on the holiday itself.

A good amount of the decorations that are McClure's creations, although he didn't create all the menaces haunting the yard.

McClure doesn’t really like scary movies. He doesn’t like gore in film. He turns his yard haunted to have fun and scare people.

The carriage in the yard is a new addition to McClure’s display. He bought a horse-drawn carriage months ago and has been adding to it to make it a funeral carriage.

“I had to do something different,” he said.

A creepy cabbie holds the reins of a fake horse. A shrouded skeleton his daughter had a hand in building stands behind the cabbie on the carriage roof.

McClure, 56, appears to be outdoing himself this year, but he isn’t done. The creatures outside his house are going to be shuffled around. He’s going to add gravestones and build a free-standing “cave”  that visitors can brave for more thrills.

McClure’s house is recognizable in the community.

“Everybody enjoys it,” Mclure said. “I’ve never heard a complaint.”
