Moms Club Seeking to Grow Membership

For Moms Club Lutz/Land O' Lakes, it’s all about friendship and fun. And the club’s Megan Hendricks says that goes for members’ youngsters, too.

 “Children of all ages like to play and socialize with other children,” she said. “Moms Club provides a group of friendly, welcoming people who are always looking for more friends and playmates for their children. Our calendar has lots of varieties of things to do to keep moms busy!”

The group of 22 moms, which formed in February 2009, takes part in playgroups, field trips, nights out for mothers and parties. Past trips have included visits to Nanny’s Petting Zoo and Fisher Honey Bee Farm. There are also service projects.

“Recently we did a school supplies drive for Kids Charity of Tampa Bay, which helps foster kids in the Tampa Bay area,” Hendricks said.

Hendricks said the “very laid back and flexible” group often spends time at local parks, libraries and members’ homes. Most of the moms are stay-at-home moms, though some work part-time or have flexible schedules.

Membership dues are $20 a year, Hendricks said. New members are being recruited.

Those interested in joining should check out the group’s Open House from 10 a.m. to noon Friday (Aug. 16) at the Land O’ Lakes Library.

“People can drop by any time and enjoy ice cream, as well as crafts and games,” Hendricks said. “We'll have current members there to tell people more about the group and what we do.”

Members have to attend one of the monthly Meet 'n Greets or Open Houses before joining the club. More information is available at www.meetup.com/momsclub.
