Oasis Needs Volunteers, Donations

The pregnancy care center has doubled the number of clients it serves and needs volunteer client educators and receptionists, as well as baby item donations.

was recently honored for having the in Land O’ Lakes.

But there’s something that makes that title stand out even more: Oasis depends on the support of individuals and organizations in the community to exist in order to provide that exceptional service.

Without you, Oasis can’t serve its clients, who range from pregnant teens to middle-income families. All services at the pregnancy center, from ultrasounds to counseling, are provided free of charge.

The center relies on donations to operate, which takes “a lot of faith,” founder and executive director Peter Castellani said.

Because the average number of clients it serves has doubled since it opened its doors in 2010, “We really need more help,” Castellani said. “Especially volunteers.”

There are two major volunteer opportunities at the center, Castellani said: client educators and receptionists.

The center asks that volunteers commit to one three-hour shift per week.

Because of the sensitive nature of the center’s services, volunteers should be age 21 or older, Castellani said.

The center also is in need of donations for its New Beginnings Room, which is stocked with infant care items new mothers can “purchase” with credits earned attending activities such as parenting classes at Oasis.

Items needed include:

  • Clothing in sizes 0-18 months
  • Infant toys
  • Diapers
  • Baby food
  • Formula
  • Strollers
  • Bouncers
  • Pack N’ Plays

Items can be new or gently used, however, Oasis cannot accept used car seats, Castellani said.
