Photo: Land O' Lakes Native Trains at Parris Island to Be Marine

The above photo was recently shared with Patch, and features a local man who is training to become a United States Marine.

The following information was provided by the Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System:

Rct. Terrance Sanders, 22, from Land O’ Lakes, Fla., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine.

Sanders is training with Platoon 3002, Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Jan. 17, 2014.

“I actually joined the Marine Corps for various reasons. One: I love this country. I would consider myself very patriotic, and looking at other branches of the military, none of them really compared or stood up to the Marine Corps. I did it for financial reasons as well, such as school. I am also soon to be married, and I want to start a family, and so, I want to be able to support them. I want to have a good, solid career,” said Sanders, who graduated from Land O’ Lakes High School in 2010.

Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps.
