Spice Up Your Saturday at Ierna's Chili Cook-Off

There will be plenty of chili, live music and a bounce house for the kids.

If you're a fan of chili and charity, a local business is offering an event you may want to mark on your calendar.

Ierna's Heating & Cooling is hosting a "Bring the Heat" chili cook-off on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at their office, 18843 U.S. Highway 41 in Lutz. Proceeds will benefit a local family in need, who will receive a new heating and cooling system.

The event includes live music and a bounce house for kids, said Loran Tripp, director of public relations and marketing for Ierna's.

The winner receives a $500 prize from the judges, who include: Paula O'Neil, clerk and comptroller in Pasco County; Anthony Becht, an NFL player; Dave Andrechuck of the Tampa Bay Lightning; Jack Mariano, Pasco County commissioner; Dr. Dae Sheridan; Ron Oakley, candidate for Pasco County commissioner and Rich Elmhorst of Bay News 9.

The company came up with the idea of a chili cook-off after deciding not to recycle other popular fundraiser ideas, said Tripp.

"We wanted something unique," she said. "There's a lot of golf tournaments and clay shoots and events out there, but there aren't a lot of chili cook-off's in the area. Being a heating and cooling company, I love the idea of it being called 'Bring the Heat."'

The free event also will reward goodie bags to the first 300 adults who show up, said Tripp.

If you know a family in need who could use a new heating and cooling system from the event's proceeds, call Loran Tripp at Ierna's at 813-948-6355.
