Supermoon Rises Tonight

This is the first of three appearances the so-called Supermoon will make this year.

Look to the skies tonight, July 11, to witness the return of the Supermoon.

This lunar spectacle occurs when the moon is near the Earth, making it appear significantly larger than other full moons.

WTSP.com reports that Tampa Bay residents should be able to take in the sight both Friday and Saturday nights with the best viewing in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 12.

Supermoons are also predicted to return Aug. 10 and again Sept. 9. The August moon is anticipated to look the biggest of the three, according to NBC News.

Weather in the Tampa Bay area may or may not behave for great viewing of the July supermoon. Storms are predicted this evening, but should clear out around 8 p.m., the National Weather Service says. Cloudy skies are likely to remain behind, however, with more storms heading Tampa Bay’s way during the daytime hours Saturday and into the evening.
