You Ready to Rock?

The Rockus Maximus kickoff show tonight offers free live music and a chance for bands to enter the upcoming battle of the bands.

Whether you only sing in the shower or you jam for real, there's somewhere you should be tonight: the library.

The Rockus Maximus kickoff show tonight, Dec. 17, at the Land O' Lakes library will feature three bands and two solo acts, said Paul Stonebridge, teen services manager for Pasco County Libraries.

The event kicks off the application period for bands that want to compete in the annual battle of the bands, which will be held March 23.

"Any band with the majority of members aged 21 and under is eligible, so long as they play their own instruments and have at least two original songs," Stonebridge said. "All music styles are welcome."

Winners of this year’s battle will receive a 10-hour recording deal and a $1,000 cash prize, Stonebridge said.

No band? No worries. The show isn't limited to those with battle aspirations. All music lovers are invited to enjoy the free concert.

Friends of the Library will sell refreshments tonight to raise money for the March show. Organizers also are looking for local businesses to sponsor the battle.

"There is even a chance to name the battle or the main stage," Stonebridge said.

The kickoff show starts at 6 p.m.
