Catch ‘Grease’ in the Park on Saturday

Pull out those poodle skirts, slick back that hair and prepare for a hopping good time 50’s style.

The GFWC Lutz-Land O’ Lakes Women’s Club is bringing the John Travolta and Olivia Newtown-John classic “Grease” to the big screen on Saturday, April 6.

The showing of the movie at the Land O’ Lakes Community Center park, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd., is a fundraiser for the club’s Relay For Life team. That team is taking part in the April 26 relay at Land O’ Lakes High School and is hoping to be able to deliver big in the donation department to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

While Acme Outdoor Movies’ showing of “Grease” is the centerpiece of the evening and comes at no charge to attendees, there are lots of other events planned throughout the evening, said club member and event organizer Karin D’Amico.

D’Amico says those who come out can expect to see food trucks, concession stands, vendors and even classic cars and motorcycles courtesy of a few local groups. There will also be chance drawings, dance lessons and more.

Money for the club’s Relay For Life team will come from the raffles and donations from food vendors and other vendors on site, D’Amico said.

So, what about those classic cars?

“I really love the classic cars and bikes so I really hope we have lot of them turn out, it's open to any show car or bike and there is no charge.”

 The 50’s-style dance lessons are being taught courtesy of club member Annette Bellinger, D’Amico said.

She was “a dance instructor back in her home country of England. She is a lot of fun and will be getting everyone up on their feet to do a little hand jive and greased lightning.”

The fun starts at 5 p.m. when a “Grease” costume contest gets under way. The pre-show fun continues until 8 p.m. The movie starts at 8:15 p.m.
