Heritage Brings 'Hardcore' Sound to Rockus Maximus

The 16th annual Battle of the Bands takes place March 22.

Rockus Maximus 16 is right around the corner and the bands signed up to compete in this year’s battle sponsored by Pasco County Libraries are ready to jam.

Heritage, a four-piece band out of Dade City, is one of eight participants in this year’s event, which takes place March 22 at the Rotary Pavilion at the Concourse, 15325 Alric Pottberg Road in Shady Hills. Admission is free with a library card. All told, this year’s battle has $6,000 in prizes on the line.

Heritage members recently answered some questions about themselves, the battle and their musical drive.

Patch: What kind of music do you play?

Heritage: Melodic hardcore.

Patch: How long have you all been together?

Heritage:  We have been playing together for around 5 months.

Patch: How did you get involved in Rockus Maximus?

Heritage: We heard about the other local bands signing up so we wanted to get in on it, so we filled out the application online.

Patch: What sets you apart from other bands?

Heritage: We keep it simple, we play fun and heavy music that kids can throw down to but still sit back and enjoy. We love making music, and when we go into writing a new song, we don't worry about anything technical, just sit back and play what we think would sound good together!

Patch: Where do you see yourself in five years? Ten?

Heritage: In 5 years, we would love to be signed to a label and touring the country. In 10, hopefully something big like Warped or a Europe tour. We are not afraid to dream, and we are especially not afraid to do what it takes to make it there. Everyone in the band will give up anything to make this band work and go further, and that also separates us from other locals.

Patch: Anything else you’d like to add?

Heritage: We love anyone who has supported us, it means a lot to see people caring about local bands, and the friends and family that help us out are amazing.
