Zumba Class Has Participants Dancing To A Latin Beat

Blend Fitness offers regular classes.

Energy, smiles and fun are the three most common terms heard when people talk about “Zumba.”

Originating in Colombia in the 1990s, Zumba is an aerobic fitness program based on dance and choreography set to Latin music that generates energy from the first beat. More than 35 countries have caught on to the Zumba craze and many stories of those who never liked working out before are now surfacing as people tell their experiences about taking a Zumba class.

in the Shoppes at Sunlake has been offering Zumba since January.

According to Carina Wells, Blend’s Zumba instructor, Zumba is a “rocking workout party.” Any age or gender can join Zumba, including those who are just beginning their fitness experience.

Angela Ramsey has been taking the class since January and is considered one of Zumba’s  biggest fans at Blend Fitness.

“It’s fun, it’s hard work and the great thing about it is that I love music and I love to dance," said Ramsey. She even recently recruited co-worker Erika Washington to join the class, as well.

“The class is easy to follow and you don’t have to worry about keeping up with every move, “ said Washington.

Coming in July, Blend Fitness will offer “Zumba Tonic” for children ages 5 to 11. This class will get the kids moving, dancing, smiling, and enjoying the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.

Blend Fitness currently offers two Zumba classes. One meets Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. and the other takes place Saturday mornings at 10:45.  Participants don't have to be members of Blend Fitness to take advantage of any of the Zumba classes.

Wells encourages everyone to “come and experience Zumba” and add a new dimension to their workout or trying something they've never tried before.
