5 Things Includes Striking Back Against Cancer

Bowling enthusiasts can get into the fight against cancer tonight when Striking for a Cure makes its monthly return.

It’s Thursday, Oct. 13, and fall is in the air. There are a number of things you might want to know about today, including these five:

  • It should be a nice day – While there’s a 20 percent chance of isolated showers today, the forecast calls for highs in the mid-80s and a low in the lower 60s. Be prepared for that rain – just in case.
  • You can sample some wine – If you’re looking for something to do this evening, The Shops at Wiregrass might have a solution. The mall’s returns tonight at 6. The event comes with a $10 ticket charge, but includes wine samples and more.
  • You can fight back against cancer – takes place tonight at Royal Lanes. The 7 p.m. event includes bowling, light refreshments and more for $15. Proceeds benefit the community’s Relay for Life teams.
  • You can help keep your neighbors informed – Patch is here to be your hub of news and conversation. If you want to become more involved, you can share your events on our calendar, add photos to the galleries, create your own announcements and even start a blog. Just post directly to the site or contact editor Sherri Lonon for assistance.
  • The White House started taking shape – The building that would eventually become the symbol of America’s president got its start today in 1792 when the cornerstone was laid for construction. John Adams was the first president to call the White House a home when he moved in back in 1800.
