Best of 2012: Teen's Struggles Lead Him to Polls

Troy Teegardin cast his first ballot in the 2012 presidential primary. He shared his thoughts on the election and his reasons for voting with Patch.

As 2012 comes to a close, Land O' Lakes Patch is taking a look back at the year that was. In February, we featured a local teen and his mom that we met at the polls during the primary election.

Troy Teegardin and his mother, Kelly Teegardin, cast their votes for Mitt Romney at the Land O' Lakes Recreation Complex. It was the 19-year-old's first time casting a ballot, and for his family, it was a very important election.

The 2011 Sunlake High graduate has cerebral palsy, and the system thus far had mostly failed them—and others.

“He has a disability, but he’s very, very bright,” Kelly Teegardin said. But to get him the services he needs, “you wouldn’t believe what we go through.”
