Freedom Fest Draws Patriotic Crowd to Wiregrass

The event brought out an estimated 22,000 people.

 

The Shops at Wiregrass rang in July 4 a day early with Tuesday's inaugural Freedom Fest.

Hosted by the Rotary Club of Wesley Chapel, the event drew an estimated 22,000 people, according to Wiregrass officials.

Activities included a bicycle decorating contest, watermelon- and hot-dog eating contests, live entertainment, a band competition and pageants — all followed by a grand finale fireworks show.

Admission was free but money was raised through entrance fees for the contests. Proceeds benefited The Rotary Foundation and Support the Troops, which sends care packages to U.S. troops stationed overseas.
