Pasco Braces for Cold Weather

The county is opening its cold weather shelters Feb. 16-17.

The cold front that has moved through the Tampa Bay area bringing rain along with it is now expected to give Land O' Lakes the chills.

The National Weather Service is calling for temperatures to dip into the low to mid-30s, overnight Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 16-17.

With that in mind, Pasco County has announced it will open its cold weather shelters at 6 p.m. both nights.

“These low temperatures and wind chills are dangerous to anyone who will be outside for a long period of time,” a county media release states. “Children, the elderly and pets are especially vulnerable to the cold and extra care should be taken to protect them.”

The following shelters will open at 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday:

  • Community Congregational Church, 6533 Circle Dr., Port Richey. This shelter does not accept families. Call 727-597-0428 for more details.
  • The Holy Ground Shelter, 8835 Denton Ave., Hudson. This shelter accepts families.
  • The Christian Church, 34921 Chancey Road, Zephyrhills. This shelter accepts families. Call 813-810-8670 for more details.
