Pasco Firefighter Faces 2nd DUI Charge

A Pasco County Firefighter/EMT faces his second DUI charge after deputies say he was speeding in New Port Richey early Friday morning.

According to the Pasco Sheriff's Office, a deputy observed Victor J. Scheeren's BMW was going 61 in a 45 mph zone and drifting side to side on U.S. 19 at about 3 a.m. on Feb. 1.

When the deputy made contact with Scheeren, 51, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot and he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, according to an arrest report.

Scheeren first denied having anything to drink, then said he had one beer. During a field sobriety test, Scheeren performed poorly, including using his arms for balance and missing the tip of his nose when asked to touch it, the report stated.

After he was placed under arrest, Scheeren said he would "absolutely not" submit to a breath test, according to the report.

Scheeren was charged with DUI (second). His custody status and mugshot were not available from the sheriff's office website at the time of publication.
