Artist Sherri Calkins of Wesley Chapel finds much of the inspiration for her mixed media artwork through religion.

“To me, art is not about the eqipment, it’s not about the tools,” she said. “It’s about your voice and your soul and your composition.”

Calkins is one of about 115 fine artists and crafters who are participating in the eighth annual Suncoast Arts Fest this weekend at The Shops at Wiregrass. The event runs Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ceramics, clay, drawings, graphics, photography, printmaking, jewelry, sculpture, mixed media, and more will be on display.

In addition to the artist exhibits, the Arts Fest features:

  • Chalk Art Walk
  • 1-Mile Suncoast Fun Run for the Arts
  • “Random Acts for Art” Entertainment Stage
  • Juried High School Emerging Artist Exhibit
  • Kid’s Art Garden

All proceeds from the event benefit “Arts for Kids,” a grant fund created by Fine Arts of the Suncoast Inc. The money supplements arts education in Pasco County schools. Last year, $10,813.91 was awarded from event proceeds.

“Come out and have a great time,” said Pam Marron, co-director of the Suncoast Arts Fest. “It’s going to be good weather and great artists.”

Hungry for prayer? How about a noonday meal? Meet in the CrossPointe Church Cafe immediately after the conclusion of the Sunday service (which runs 10:30 a.m.-noon) for a complimentary lunch and a DVD-based study.

Temple Terrace Hickory Heritage Historic Golf Weekend

Watch golfers in 1920s attire play golf the way the historic Temple Terrace Golf Course was designed for. The Temple Terrace Hickory Hacker amateur golf tournament begins Saturday at 11 a.m. Register online. That’s followed by a Knickers Bash where attendees continue to wear their knickers or flapper dresses and begins at 6 p.m. Register online. On Monday, professional golfers from around the world take to the course at 11 a.m. for the U.S. Professional Hickory Golf Championship. The public is invited to watch for free.

The Sunshine Boys in Carrollwood

Sunday, 3 p.m.
This performance of “The Sunshine Boys” by Neil Simon follows Al and Willie, who were top-billed vaudevillians for over forty years as “Lewis and Clark.” Now, they aren't even speaking. When CBS requests them for a “History of Comedy” retrospective, a grudging reunion brings the two back together, along with a flood of memories, miseries and laughs.

The cast of Community School of the Arts pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade students perform an adaptation of Disney’s 2008 Broadway production of “The Little Mermaid Jr. The performance features the songs “Part of Your World,” “She’s in Love,” and “Under the Sea.”

Group Fitness Class in Land O’ Lakes
Land O' Lakes Recreation Complex
Saturday, 10:30 a.m.
The Land O’ Lakes Recreation Complex offers mixed-level group fitness classes every Saturday. Each week, participants partake in light to strenuous routines from a wide range of exercise styles. The classes feature aerobic, cardiovascular training, yoga, pilates and more.

Funland Fundraiser For Seven Springs Middle School in New Port Richey

Saturday, 1 p.m.
Families are invited to enjoy a 22-foot dual slide, obstacle course, jumpy, sports, and games with prizes at a fundraiser for Seven Springs Middle School.
