Where to Recycle Your Tree in Pasco County

Live Christmas trees don't have to wind up in landfills.

If it’s time to take down those decorations and put up the presents, Pasco County wants to make sure you do the job with the environment in mind.

The county offers free recycling services for all residents who happen to have live Christmas trees.

There is a hitch, however: “If your Christmas tree is a live one with a root ball, please plant it,” county officials urge in a media release. “If it’s not, recycle it in one of our parks.”

The county takes trees dropped off at specific parks and turns them into mulch for landscaping purposes. In order for the county to accept a tree, it’s important that you remove all the ornaments and tinsel first. Once that’s done, you can drop off your tree at the following locations throughout the county:

  • Land O’ Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd., Land O’ Lakes
  • Wesley Chapel District Park, 7727 Boyette Road, Wesley Chapel
  • Veterans Memorial Park, 14333 Hicks Road, Hudson
  • Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park, 10500 Wilderness Park Road, New Port Richey
  • Elsie Logan Memorial Park, 15840 Green Glen Lane, Shady Hills
  • Anclote Gulf Park, 2305 Baillie’s Bluff Road, Holiday
  • Samuel W. Pasco Recreational complex, 9835 Chancey Road, Zephyrhills
  • John S. Burk Memorial Park, 1322 Gene Nelson Blvd., Dade City

Trees will be accepted from Dec. 26 through Jan. 6, 2013. There is no charge to recycle. Last year, the county recycled 1,079 trees.
