New Port Richey, FL. (Monday, May 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.) For more than 130 years the West Elfers Cemetery has served as the final resting place for west Pasco’s pioneer families. On Monday, May 28, 2012, the West Elfers Cemetery Preservation Association, Inc. will honor our veterans with their presentation of the 6th Annual West Elfers Cemetery Memorial Day Services.
This year’s special service will be presented by our master of ceremonies Thomas B. Dobies and to properly honor of our veterans, the Father Gerard E. Powers, 4th Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus will present colors.
Services will conclude with a special wreath laying ceremony to specifically honor the sacrifices of one Pasco pioneer veteran at rest in the cemetery and whose services will also be highlighted during our poignant services.
Dignitaries in attendance will include State Senator Mike Fasano, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco, School Superintendant Heather Fiorentino, and others.
Since being organized in 2007 the West Elfers Cemetery Preservation Association, Inc. has been working with the community to organize and coordinate an annual Memorial Day service to honor the veterans at rest in the historic cemetery. West Elfer’s veterans are extremely important to our local history in the respect that they represent services in seven United States Wars, beginning with the Florida Seminole Wars.
The West Elfers Cemetery Preservation Association, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt not-for-profit organization founded in 2007 by the families of those interred at the historic, county owned, West Elfers Cemetery. Our preservation association has been diligently working to encourage and promote a mutual interest in the care, maintenance, preservation, and restoration of the historic West Elfers Cemetery as a community burial ground, which should demand the respect of all.
Please join us for our 6th Annual West Elfers Cemetery Memorial Day service.
