Mother-son night?

On February 21st the Land O'Lakes recreation center is holding its Father-Daughter dance. This seems to be a perennial crowd-pleaser. My husband and daughter are going. 
But what about mothers and sons? Would sons dance with their mothers? Should we organize a mother-son dance? Or would a mother-son game night be better? We have an 8-year-old son, and I think it would be fun to have a mother-son event. Who agrees with me? Any suggestions on what to plan? Thanks!
