2 Men Shot in Possible 'Foiled Robbery'

Traffic on Land O' Lakes Boulevard northbound was backed up from State Road 54 to just south of Hale Road as emergency vehicles responded to the call Friday, July 19.

Update at 10:13 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013:

Two men who were shot during a home invasion robbery attempt in Land O' Lakes are hospitalized in serious condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

A spokesperson for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office says the men entered a cottage near the 4400 block of Land O' Lakes Boulevard around 5:52 p.m Friday, July 19. One of the men was carrying a fake gun.

A visitor in the cottage opened fire on the men, hitting them. The men left the cottage and collapsed on the sidewalk.

There were five people inside the cottage at the time of the shooting, including a 2-year-old child. No one in the home was injured.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office has not released the names of those involved.

Details are still emerging in a double shooting in Land O’ Lakes that has sent two men to the hospital and has traffic tied up along U.S. 41 north of State Road 54.

Pasco County deputies received a call around 5:52 p.m. Friday, July 19 about an incident in the 4400 block of Land O’ Lakes Boulevard, wrote sheriff’s office spokesman Kevin Doll in an email to media.

While the shooting remains under investigation and few details are available, Doll said the incident might be “the result of a foiled home invasion/robbery attempt.”

Doll said “two male suspects have been shot.” They were transported to a local hospital.

It is unclear at this time who fired the gun.
