First PPAL Football, Cheer Camp Scores Big with Kids

The Pasco Police Athletic League's camp was open to children from all over the county.

The first annual recently drew more than 350 campers to the Land O’Lakes Recreation Complex.

The one-day event held June 16 featured four football and cheerleading skills stations, a K-9 demonstration, guest speakers, a bounce house, dunk tank and free t-shirts for participants.

PPAL football and cheer team representatives from Land O’Lakes, Dade City, Hudson, New Port Richey, Trinity, Zephyrhills, and Wesley Chapel set up booths in support of their respective teams.

The event also included a sports memorabilia auction, raffles and giveaways.

A portion of the proceeds from the camp will benefit the Vitale family of New Port Richey.  Lori Vitale, a longtime PPAL volunteer, lost her battle with cancer in January, according to a Pasco Sheriff’s Office press release.

The camp was designed to hone in on technique and fundamental aspects of the game, while emphasizing the importance of school, respecting parents and a fun experience on the field.

Guest speakers included Sheriff Chris Nocco and former Tampa Bay Buccaneer and first round pick by the New York Jets, Anthony Becht.

Nocco spoke proudly of the PPAL football league, and ensured continued success in the growth of the league and its positive effect on the community.

“I promise you we're going to make this league better and better,” Nocco told the crowd.

Campers enjoyed the experience and what it offered to their game and overall outlook, as well as building excitement for the upcoming season.

The Pasco Police Athletic League "teaches us teamwork and responsibility, and it’s done a lot for me, my brother, and my family,” said Charles Mikell, a 14-year old Land O’ Lakes Gators player.
