New Pasco Sheriff Reorganizes Command Staff

Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco in the agency when he was sworn in May 1.

He didn’t wait long.

In an interoffice memorandum dated May 2, Nocco announced three new appointments that will change the flow of operations in the agency. Former Sheriff Bob White had recently when was appointed by then Gov. Charlie Crist to serve as Hernando County’s sheriff.

While White decided against naming a new colonel and second in command, Nocco reversed the course. Former Major Brian Head who led the agency’s detention bureau is now the new colonel.

“I am creating the position of colonel to assist me with the management and administration of the day-to-day operations of the agency,” Nocco wrote in the memo. “The presence of a second in command will also greatly assist me in my endeavor to ensure my executive staff functions as one ‘unified team’ in applying policies across bureaus, and that decisions are made and communicated in a timely manner.”

for White’s job when he announced his retirement. Nocco and Head have a strong working relationship. The two rode together for their interviews in Tallahassee.

“It was never about competition with he and I,” Head said following as sheriff. “It was about serving the citizens of Pasco County. We’re going to remain friends and we’re going to keep the focus on the people and the job at hand.”

In addition to Head’s promotion, Nocco named Capt. Ed Beckman the new major for the detention bureau and Ray Revell was promoted to the rank of captain. Revell will serve as the operations division commander.

“I have full confidence in all three of these individuals and trust they will continue to bring success to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office,” Nocco wrote.
