Teen Steals, Crashes Vehicle

He was located by a K9 unit after fleeing the vehicle.

A 16-year-old Land O' Lakes resident was arrested and charged with Grand Theft Auto early Thursday morning.

The teenager entered and drove the vehicle parked at 22711 Southshore Drive without permission, according to the arrest report.

After stealing the vehicle, the teen was involved in a traffic crash and fled the scene. He was witnessed running from the vehicle by a resident in the area where the crash occurred.

A K9 unit located the teen hiding behind bushes and he was taken into custody, according to the report. After being read his Miranda rights, he admitted to the crime in his mother's presence, the report stated.

The teen was taken to the hospital for medical clearance and then to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
