Teen Suffers Serious Injuries After Truck Overturns

Toyota truck overturned at Bahia Vista and McIntosh after being struck by a Mercedes.

An 18-year-old Sarasota resident is being treated for serious injuries following a crash around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday at Bahia Vista Street and McIntosh Road.

A 2002 Mercedes C420 driven by Molly Marie Egan Renner, 34 of Sarasota, attempted to make a left turn from Bahia Vista to McIntosh when the lights changed from green to yellow, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

At that time, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma driven by Jesse Ethan Sapp, 18 of Sarasota, approach the intersection and the Mercedes collided into the left rear of the Tacoma, causing the truck to rotate and overturn, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Sapp was sent to Blake Medical Center for serious injuries while Renner suffered minor injuries, according to Highway Patrol.

Renner is charged with violation of right of way-left turn, according to Highway Patrol.

seems to me that if the light has changed from green to yellow, the person in the intersection needs to finish their left turn, and the person driving straight through should be stopping, which is what a yellow light signals, afterall. Sapp is at fault, not the person trying to finish clearing the intersection.

Wrong on that one. Oncoming traffic always has the right of way. Turning vehicles must yield to cars coming from the opposite direction and then make their turn. Sorry!
