Teens Arrested in July 4 Ballantrae Arsons

A pair of 15-year-olds has claimed responsibility for lighting fireworks on the porches of two Land O’ Lakes homes.

Two Land O’ Lakes teenagers face first-degree arson charges following a July 4 incident in the Ballantrae subdivision.

The boys, whose names Patch is not releasing due to their ages, are both 15. They turned themselves in to Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies July 9.

The arsons occurred between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m. July 4, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Doug Tobin. The teens are accused of setting off fireworks on the front porches of two homes on Glenapp Drive. In one case, the fireworks started a fire that caused about $5,000 in damage to the home. In the second, the teens are said to have rung the home’s doorbell after igniting the fireworks.

“Someone could have been seriously injured or killed in the fire,” Tobin said.

The teens were caught on film during the second incident.

According to Tobin, the boys became aware of the video and turned themselves in.

Sounds like something bored 15-year-old boys would do. I'm guessing they didn't think it through, but they should be made to pay for the damage. Hopefully they learned their lesson.
