Woman Crashes Nudist Resort's Gate, Gets Arrested

She faces multiple charges, including DUI and hit and run, for crashing through the gates of Caliente to enter, then through a golf cart to exit.

The gates of a popular nudist community were not enough to keep a Wesley Chapel woman out early Thursday morning. Neither was a golf cart placed to block the entrance after she crashed through the gate.

According to state troopers, Kelly Ann Thomas, 34, crashed through that on her way back out of Caliente Club & Clothing Optional Resort in Land O' Lakes.

According to an arrest report, Thomas entered the community at about 2 a.m. by colliding with the gate at the front entrance. A security guard then used a golf cart to block the entrance so no other unauthorized entries would occur. Thomas then exited the community by jumping a curb, side-swiping a tree and colliding with the parked golf cart.

The security guard followed the woman beyond the gates to U.S. 41 until a Florida Highway Trooper was able to make a traffic stop at the intersection of Pleasant Plains Parkway and U.S. 41.

According to the trooper's report, Thomas had a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage present upon her breath and bloodshot, watery eyes."

After failing a series of field sobriety tests, Thomas was arrested and transported to the Land O' Lakes jail.

Post-Miranda, Thomas told the trooper she had three drinks that evening. When asked if she should have been driving, she said it was "borderline."

Breath tests performed at the detention facility yielded results of .139 and .134.

Thomas of 5043 Chipotle Lane in Wesley Chapel was charged with DUI, two counts of DUI with damage to property, and hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident with damage. She was released from jail Thursday afternoon on $1,500 bond.
