AARP Chapter To Host Session for National You’ve Earned a Say Campaign

Attendees will use new audience-response technology to answer multiple-choice questions on Social Security and Medicare using handheld devices, providing real-time polling during the session.

Land O' Lakes AARP Chapter 4764 has been selected to host the first area “listening session” for You’ve Earned a Say, a national effort to raise the voices of  Americans on how to strengthen Social Security and Medicare, at its April meeting, according to chapter President George E. Cooper.

“Our chapter recognizes that AARP members and all Americans have paid into Social Security and Medicare all their working lives,” Cooper said. “You’ve earned a say on how these programs should be strengthened for the future.   Our chapter is delighted to be able to host this meeting, which will raise the voices of Land O’Lakes residents on these important issues.”

The meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. April 27 at the .  The event is the first in this area to focus on You’ve Earned a Say, which will hold thousands of meetings in all 50 states, including nearly 250 events in Florida alone.  Michelle Cyr, AARP Associate State Director for Advocacy, will facilitate the discussion.

Floridians ages 50 and older attending the listening session will use new AARP audience-response technology that lets them answer multiple-choice questions on Social Security and Medicare using handheld devices, providing real-time polling of those at the session.  Attendees also will be able to take part in an open dialogue, ask questions and get answers.

The event is open not only to Chapter 4764 members but all members of the voting public.  There is no charge to attend the event.  Lunch will be catered by Pizza Villa for a nominal fee.

As a former AARP member it was nice sometimes to get the small discounts at hotels or at some stores, but the magazine is nothing but ads and lately the AARP sure hasn't been representing the needs of seniors. I decided last year to stop paying for membership and my life hasn't changed one bit and I think that if more seniors did the same, the AARP would start working for us for a change.
