County Sets Goals, Do They Mesh With Yours?

The county has a new strategic plan that lays out four main objectives. Do you agree with the priorities the commission has set?

Pasco Commissioners last week approved a plan that outlines priorities for the county to pursue over the next five years.

The county’s 2013-17 strategic plan is a roadmap of sorts, meant to guide staff and commission actions toward specific goals.

The county has laid out four “strategic objectives” for the coming years. We’d like to know what Land O' Lakes residents think about them.

Here are the objectives, according to the county’s website:

  1. Create a Thriving Community: Proactively pursue opportunities with public and private partners for growth and redevelopment through integrated land use and long-range planning, while enhancing, managing and maintaining current resources, services and infrastructure.
  2. Enhance Quality of Life: Create a community people want to call home that provides and promotes safety and security; essential health and human services; social, cultural, and recreational opportunities; and preserves and protects natural resources.
  3. Stimulate Economic Growth: Support a sustainable increase in community income and investment, economic diversification, and expanded opportunities for all.
  4. Improve Organizational Performance: Provide the processes, procedures, and necessary resources (physical, human, and financial) to efficiently and effectively deliver services in a culture of continual improvement.

Do you think the county’s priorities are straight? Do you think Pasco can achieve its goals? What improvements would you like to see made between now and 2017? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

Think the goals are on target, just a bit lofty and ambitious for one year, given the track record from the past!

Quite actualy Pasco County commisioners have set this County on a path of Health and Environmental Destruction. High Density housing and other rampant building will lead to High density traffic jams, Higher Heat and Humidity and High density Air and Water Pollution all of which cause rampant Health Problems as we are starting to see now. Gone will be the eye pleasing forrests and pristine Wetlands which originaly made Pasco attractive and Pasco will become just another Dump City just for the mere sake of a Developers and Comissioners Dollar. Yes, all of this will happen within 5 years if they are allowed to move forward on this devastating plan. What can You do ? Call your county comissioner and demand they hold more open meetings about these topics and post the times and dates in Newspapers, Signs and on the Internet for everyone to see and have these meetings at convenient times for us to attend such as evening hours. Then we All must show up at these meetings and make Our voices heard Loud and Clear. If that fails to stop the bribes that Pasco comissioners get from Developers, and we all know they do, then we Will spare nothing on their removal in the next election. Remember we are already running out of clean drinking water and the Smog in the air is already leading to rampant health problems in this area and the filling in of Wetlands and rampant escavation will only make it a lot worse

Your headline is incorrect: It is a wish list of vague list of objectives. A goal requires specific measurements and a target date. Politicians never want to be specific or set real goals that they can be held accountable to. Everyone can agree with these objectives. The say what ever you want them to say. One person reads quality of life as no new development and another reads it as actually completing a east west road across Pasco. Both interpretations are correct, just ask the same politician at different events.

Absolutely correct Mr. Mavor. Those are nice general goals that we all would like to see accomplished but we need to be a bit more specific considering the limited tax base and depressed real estate market.

While I completely agree with Mr. Carlson's comments regarding environmental degradation and overcrowding I would just like to suggest in as a kind a way possible that he temper is words somewhat when it comes to making accusations against public officials. Paraphrasing what you said: Pasco County Commisioners take bribes. While you have a Constitutional right to voice your opinion considering the "possibility" that public officials "may" be taking bribes you actually do not have any proof that they do (do you?). As such, it is defamatory for you to say that they do. If I was a personal injury attorney and it was a slow week at the office I would be asking all of those commisioners if they felt that their reputation had been diminished in any way by your accusations.
