Nocco Faces More Competition in the Race for Sheriff

The field now stands at six for the job currently held by Chris Nocco.

When Pasco County Sheriff’s Maj. Maurice Radford abruptly retired in September, his future plans were unclear.

That’s not the case any longer.

Radford, a Republican, has filed paperwork with the Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Office, announcing his intention to run for sheriff. The Wesley Chapel resident was one of Sheriff Chris Nocco’s top commanders until he announced his retirement in September.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Radford was hired by former Sheriff Bob White in 2001 to serve as a major. He was in charge of the agency’s road patrol deputies.

Radford faces stiff competition in the November election. Democrats Kim Bogart and Larry Roberts have already announced their intentions, as have Republicans Nocco, Roger Fortney and Mike “XX” Foxx.

Nocco was appointed last year to serve out White’s term after he announced his retirement.

Radford was not available for comment.
