Obama Endorses Gay Marriage, Do You?

We want to hear what you think about this issue.

Barack Obama has a history of presidential firsts.

He was the first black president elected in America. And now he’s the first sitting president to declare support for same-sex marriage, according to The Huffington Post.

"I've always been adamant that gay and lesbian Americans should be treated fairly and equally," the post quotes Obama as saying.

How much of a political impact Obama’s action will have remains to be seen. Huffington Post reports that the issue lies largely in the hands of states and the courts.

What do you think about same-sex marriage? Let us know in the comments section.

It is the next civil rights hurdle. So far, there has been significantly less violence in this civil rights movement than the last (not to say there has been none, however). Fortunately, we know when this civil rights battle is won. When all consenting adults will be free to choose any partner in marriage and be considered equal under the law in all states. Unfortunately, the last two civil rights battles (women, racial) are still not over. There is always some legislator who pulls some trick to subvert the law.

Same sex marriages are NOT what the Bible teaches. It is only meant that a man and a woman shall marry and have children and brought up in the love and admonition of the church. That isn't what seems to be happening today and it will be the downfall. Let's get back to the Bible and its teachings. This has nothing to do with civil rights.

Same sex marriage is an abomination in the eyes of our God. If the USA is to continue to be a nation under God, we need to stay in His Word - not that of a politician!

The bible is very clear about this issue. That's not to say that we shouldn't love them. We are to love the sinner but hate the sin as this is clearly a sin. 1 Timothy 1:9-11 New International Version (NIV) 9 We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

I believe the question is " nobama endorses gay marriage do you ? " Do I ? H--- NO. Whats really sad is how the word Gay has been hijacked . It was used in the past do discribe a happy carefree person , or event! Now it is used to discribe a person (mostly men) that dresses up in silly femine clothes, acts nutty, and expects everyone else to agree that its normal behavior. I HOPE GOD IS LOOKING THE OTHER WAY !

God loves all of His children, and we are to love everyone as He loves us. He gave us free will. "Let the first person who has not sinned, cast the first stone"
Mark S. Hankins May 14, 2012 at 06:26 PM
Jesus put himself physically between the stones of the accusers and the woman who was guilty of sins that he continually preached against. Likewise Christians should be very careful to separate their believe that the lifestyle of gays is sinful with their value to God as individuals. Marriage in the church is not appropriate for them in most denominations, and I believe it is not sound doctrine. As for what can be done legally, I believe it is the duty of Christians to take a hard look at the issues that affect their lives with respect to such things as hospital visits, work benefits, etc. We can provide for justice without endorsing the lifestyle. Jesus would ask us not to be just, but to be merciful as he was. So while I do not support gay marriage or necessarily even civil unions, I do believe that laws and policies need to change so that gays are not bullied or denied equal rights under the law. Again, that does not mean that we abandon thousands of years of tradition about what a marriage is and what it is for, much of which cannot apply to gays by simple biological facts (and yes, I've seen the photo meme making the rounds that tries to make a position like mine seem silly--it doesn't wash).

You either believe that the Bible is the infallible word of God or you don’t. The Bible states that God is not a respecter of persons, meaning that he holds no one person in higher esteem than another. All sin separates us from God. Believing this allows me to love everyone…whether they think as I do, or not. I have gay friends and I have Christian friends. I even have Muslim friends. As a Christian, it is my duty to love my neighbor as myself. It is not my duty to judge – that is God’s duty. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to sit idly by and watch the fabric of our American life come unraveled. Our country was founded according to the truths found in the Bible. I will always defend my country against anything that would cause it harm…and moral decay is one of those things. While God is not a respecter of persons - He loves all of us the same - He does demand our obedience. He gave us all the same book of rules to follow - to help us in this life, not to trip us up. It is also my duty to live my life according to the principles laid out in God’s word and my civic duty to vote according to these precepts. No. I do not endorse gay marriage.

Stephen J. Mccracken, " EDUCATE YOURSELF " maybe you ought to take your own advice ! I didn't take the time to count, but I bet not more then one of your comments has the spelling correct. You must have taken at least twenty minutes from your " activities" to design that darling little flag. Why is it individuals like you always resort to calling names when your stuck without a intelligent argument ? To the Patch why is there no place in Stephens comments for a direct reply ?
