RNC Hoopla Won't Overlook Central Pasco

Convention goers from Texas and Louisiana will rest their heads at Wesley Chapel's Saddlebrook resort.

Think the Land O' Lakes area is far enough north of downtown to avoid all the hoopla associated with the Republican National Convention?

Think again!

According to The Tampa Tribune, nearby Pasco County will play host to about 200 delegates from Louisiana and Texas. The Texas delegation, in fact, is one of the country’s largest with 155 voting members.

To prepare for the Aug. 27-30 convention, Saddlebrook is undergoing a massive renovation. The project includes major exterior improvements to the resort.

Saddlebrook officials aren’t entirely sure who will call the resort home during the Tampa convention, but some big names are anticipated.

“Right now, we don't know who will be here," the Tribune reported Tom Dempsey, Saddlebrook’s CEO, as saying. "But judging from the delegations, there could be an ex-president."

Big-name Republicans that might come in for the convention include Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former President George W. Bush and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.
