School Board to Address Charter School Enrollment

The board meets tonight at 6 in Land O' Lakes.

Should five charter schools in Pasco County be allowed to increase the number of students they serve?

That’s just one of the questions facing the Pasco County School Board when it meets at 6 tonight.

Academy at the Farm, Athenian Academy of Pasco, Countryside Montessori, Dayspring Academy and Imagine School at Land O’ Lakes are all asking for their enrollment cap to be raised for the 2012-13 school year.

Imagine is asking for the largest hike with a request to take its maximum enrollment from 584 students up to 654. That school recently moved into a permanent location on Sunlake Boulevard across from Rushe Middle School and Sunlake High. The new building can serve up to 772 students, according to a school board document.

All five requests are recommended for approval.

The board will also recognize a number of local achievements, including those who have been named Florida School Crossing Guards of the Year.

Other issues on tap for discussion include student requests for transfer into or out of the Pasco County district, classroom courses for the 2012-13 school year and a number of staffing changes.

Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting and visitors may sign up to address the board. The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. in the district administration offices building No. 3, 7205 Land O’ Lakes Blvd.
