School Board to Name New Lake Myrtle Principal Tonight
Jason Petry, vice principal at Veterans Elementary, is up for the job.
If Pasco County School Board members approve staff recommendations tonight, will have a new principal.
Superintendent Heather Fiorentino is recommending the promotion of Veterans Elementary assistant principal Jason Petry to fill the post currently held by Kara Smucker.
Smucker, who has served as principal at Lake Myrtle for four years, has been recommended to take over the top spot at Gulf Highlands Elementary in Port Richey.

Gulf’s current principal, Jill Middleton, is expected to be moved to Schrader Elementary as an assistant principal.

The shuffling of posts and positions comes on the heels of Gulf Highland’s F grade from the state. Lake Myrtle has maintained an A grade for three of the four years Smucker has been at the helm.
The school board meets tonight, July 26, at 6 p.m. in Land O’ Lakes.
