Sheriff to Speak at Christian Business Connections Meeting

Chris Nocco will discuss the sheriff's office's work toward combating pill-related crime and efforts to get faith-based organizations involved in solving problems in the community.

Sheriff Chris Nocco is scheduled to speak at the Christian Business Connections meeting Thursday, Jan. 26.

Nocco will discuss the steps his office has taken to improve its organization, such as shutting down pill mills and acquiring new technology to deter and fight crime, CBC ambassador Rene Van Hout said.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office believes that between 70 and 80 percent of  Pasco crime is irelated to prescription pills, according to the sheriff's website.

The sheriff’s office has estimated that about 40 percent of people arrested in Pasco County need to be put on detox protocol or detox watch once they are booked into the detention center, the website states.

Pill abuse and its impact on the community will be "a major topic" at Thursday's meeting, Van Hout said.

Nocco also will speak about his initiative to get faith-based organizations involved with the sheriff's office to help to solve problems in the community, executive director Peter Castellani said.

“I heard him speak about this previously and wanted more people to hear this great idea,” Castellani said.

The meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 at Heritage Park Church, 1854 Oak Grove Blvd, in Lutz.
